Wildflower Lullaby

This child of mine
does not have a crib
and the butterflies
made him one

In the green meadow
thank you poppies
sleep child sleep
with all the flowers

Wild hyacinth (Blue dick)
daisies and lilies
dandelions
clovers and lupines

Sleep child sleep
in the green meadow
with the butterflies
and all the flowers

Este niño mio
no tiene cuna
y las mariposas
le han hecho una

En el prado verde
gracias amapolas
duerme nińo duerme
con todas las flores

Jacinto del desierto
margaritas y lirios
dientes de león
tréboles y lupinos

Duerme niño duerme
en el prado verde
con las mariposas
y todas las flores

This lullaby was inspired by another one, as often my poems are. The first stanza is NOT original, but taken from a lullaby I found in the book Mamá Goose: A Latino Nursery Treasury. I wanted a poem, as well, to help us remember the wildflowers we have been learning.

Sing this song to the tune of “Los Pollitos.
