a e i o u
el burro sabe más que tú
Begin with las vocales.
Spanish vowels are much simpler than English vowels. That is because las vocales in Spanish only have one sound each, which is the same as their name.
a - ‘ah’ as in pot
e - ‘eh’ as in elephant
i - ‘ee’ as in bee
o - 'oh’ - okay
u - ‘oo’ as in suit
Cuidado. Spanish vowel sounds are much SHORTER than English vowels. Make them short and sharp. Not long and drawn out, as we do in English.
Sing out loud!
Practice Spanish vowel sounds with la canción: la mar estaba serena.
Translation: the sea is serene.
y la canción: Chocolate
Translation: chocolate
and the hand clapping game: Las Vocales
Translation: the vowels
Play a game!
These are great games to play in a group while passing around a ball or talking stick. Or make up your own questions to use.
a e i o u. Me llamo ______ ¿Cómo te llamas tú?
* Translation: a e i o u, my name is _______. What is your name? *
a e i o u. Mi insecto favorito es ______ ¿Y tú?
* Translation: a e i o u. My favorite insect is _____. And you? *
